Welcome Our New Design Team Coordinator!

Grace Avatar shorter

No stranger to the Bread Basket, Grace Nywening is joining us once again, as a regular member of the Design Team!  She had been a Guest Designer for us a few months back, and we are thrilled to have her join us again.  This time, Grace is taking on two duties - member of the Bread Basket and the one carrying the "Big Stick."  She will be taking over for Judy Rozema as Design Team Coordinator.

Judy became DTC in January, and is now handing the Stick over to Grace, to spend more time with her family.  She will still be with us in the Basket though!

Take a look at this stunning beauty that Grace designed using three different ODBD sets (Amazing Grace Hymn, Jesus, and Sing to the Lord)!

Flashback Friday Favorite - I am the Way

In John 14:6, it tells us Jesus is the personification of truth and the center of everlasting life and this was beautifully conveyed in the I am the Way set:

I_am_the_Way-600x579

The lily has been the flower associated with Easter due to the Sermon on the Mount and any way you choose to color it, it radiates beauty, purity, sweetness, gaiety and majesty.  Here's what the Bread Basket designers decided to create:

Judy says:
I made this card today using some of my favorite things from Our Daily Bread designs.  The images are from the August release: Jesus.  I stamped the image of Jesus in VersaFine Sepia ink, and the verse in ODBD Turquoise ink. The card base is Copper Metallic by Prism, and has such a beautiful sheen. The flowers are Prima Artistry flowers.

I am happy to be able to share this with you today!

DT Card of the Day - Kelley Holland!

Yes, yes!  You've read that right!  The owner of ODBD!  It's only fitting since it is her DT :).  She makes beautiful cards, evident here in this absolutely gorgeous Sing to the Lord card:

Grad_006

As you can tell, Kelley is a talented stamper!  She may be a Christian businesswoman now, but she was a stamper FIRST!  I love the antique metal corner adorners and that hat pin through the ribbon is simply stunning.  Even with the gorgeous paper background, Kelley managed to keep the focus on the scripture!

Thank you, Kelley, for inspiring us all with your stamps and your work!

You can always find her in the Our Daily Bread designs website :).

Product Review - SMOOCH Pearlized Paints!

Smooch

Enabler Alert! If you don't want to fall in love with another product, you should look away now!!! Just kidding....you've GOT to see this!!! "Smooch" is a pigmented pearlized paint that you can use to accent stamped images, embellishments, fabric, altered items, chipboard, and more! You can even stamp with it....I'll show you how in just a moment!

Smooch Tutorial 1

I started out by stamping my image with permanent ink and cut it out since it will be popped up on my finished card.

Smooch Tutorial 2

Though the bottles look like nail polish, the brush inside has a very fine paintbrush tip, to paint those tiny details!

Smooch Tutorial 3
You can paint it on heavy or light....it blends very easily, but dries in a few minutes. For extra highlight or shading , you can add another coat!

Smooch Tutorial 4

Another great option with Smooch is that you can stamp with it as well! Just paint it on the rubber, not too heavy, and stamp on your paper or project. As soon as you are finished, wipe off the remaining paint from your stamp with a rag or paper towel and clean your stamp with your stamp cleaner/conditioner. No heavy duty cleaners are necessary, as long as you clean it right away. If you allow it to dry on the stamp, it may affect the image quality of your stamp.

Smooch Tutorial Close-up
Here is a close-up of the finished image....too bad the camera doesn't show off the true sparkle!!! As soon as I saw this new set, "Happy Birthday", I knew I had to paint this gorgeous scene with Smooch!!!

Smooch Tutorial Card

Smooch is not only available in the original Lollipop colors but we also have all the new Popsicle colors as well!

An Interview With ConnieMcCotter

Connie McCotter joined the design team at ODBD in July and we are thrilled to have her as part of the Bread Basket.  Let's chat with Connie and see what new things we can learn!

Connie McCotter

How long have you been stamping, and how did you start?
I have been stamping since 1994...I got started with my sister using stamps in my scrapbooking, and then shortly after I started making my Christmas cards...which has now evolved into making cards for every single occasion you can think of!

How would you describe your "style"?
I have a couple of favorite styles that I used often...sometimes I go more elegant, and other times (well most of the time) I am distressing something on my card!

What was the first stamp you ever bought?
I can not even remember, it was so long ago, but a good bet would be some sort of flower!

Describe the "weirdest" stamp you have.
I have a margarita stamp, it has a bottle of tequila along with a margarita glass on it, and it says It's Margarita Time!  LOL!!

What is your favorite medium to work with?
Lately it has been copics!!

What is your favorite technique?
Distressing...whether it is with inks, paints, tearing or a distressing tool, if it has something to do with distressing I probably have done it!

What is your favorite or most used tool? (Other than the basics: adhesive, scissors, etc.)
Well, I think with my last answer I would have to say my Tim Holtz Distressing Tool!

What is your preferred white cardstock?
Stampin' Up! Whisper White

What is your favorite ODBD set and why?
I would have to say Quiet Waters...I am a nature lover...and this set is just sooo beautiful and calming!

What inspires you in your stamping?
Anything!  It could be a sketch, a specific image, or pretty much anything I see around me while doing my day to day activities.

What is one of the top items on your stamping wish list?
More Copics and Spellbinders dies!

What is one food you couldn't live without?
Chocolate and pop corn...okay that is really two, but you have to have both sweet and salty!!

Is there a song or book title that reflects your personality?
Welcome to My Crazy Life - Pam Tillis....LOL!!

What is one thing you like to do to relax?
Sit on my back porch with a cup of coffee/latte/mocha watching my kids play.

When is the best time of day for you to be creative?
Usually in the early morning...although I have been known to whip out a few things really late at night too!

Check out this gorgeous "Connie Creation" made with one of the August releases: Jesus!

Flashback Friday Favorite - May God Hold You

The color green and shamrocks have been synonymous with St. Patrick's Day since the 17th century, but did you know that it was originally a religious holiday? Aside from it being a celebration of the Irish culture, it was also celebrated as a Christian festival in church.  That's why the May God Hold You set was created to be versatile in both aspects!

Irish_Blessing-600x537

The set can be used in many different ways as show in these beautiful examples:

Time With Angella

It's Thursday and time for "Time With....."! Every Tuesday and Thursday,
one of the Bread Basket members will share a project with you here, and
then you can hop on over to their personal blog for more good stuff!

Today it's Time With Angella Crockett.

Jesus_Gold_Frame

Angella says:

The stamp set I used is "Jesus".
It is one of the August releases. I think this image of Jesus is so peaceful and beautiful! The gold
frame is actually from a package of place-card frames I found at
Michael's on clearance.....I KNEW I would find a use for them!!! I did
take the backing off since I didn't need the pop-out cardboard stand.
The verse was stamped on a Labels Four die-cut which I trimmed down to make a tag. Added paper piercing, sponging, satin ribbon, gold brads, and a gold cross charm.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Have a blessed day!!!

Customer Card of the Day - Jessica Dizon

I found this beauty by Jessica Dizon on SCS and it's simplicity and focus on the scripture caught my eye:

AVS201_by_tommygirloz

Rather than overpowering the scripture from the Scripture Collection 1 set Jessica let it shine by highlighting with some sponged ink.  I love how she created the circle border by using the same decorative paper and who doesn't love Spellbinders, right?!  Thank you for such a gorgeous card, Jessica!

Time With Wendy

It's Tuesday and time for "Time With....."!  Every Tuesday and Thursday,
one of the Bread Basket members will share a project with you here, and
then you can hop on over to their personal blog for more good stuff!

Today it's Time With Wendy Weixler. Wendy is our August Guest Designer.

Wendy says:

What an honor and privilege it has been for me to join the
girls in the Bread Basket as a Guest Designer for ODBD this month!!  I have enjoyed the camaraderie, challenges
and friendships I have gained while “playing” with such lovely stamps and such
wonderful people (these ladies truly have hearts as big as their talent)!!

Being the self-proclaimed “Butterfly Queen,” I couldn’t pass
on creating this card using the beautiful little butterfly image from the
newly-released “Happy Birthday” set.
Using this lattice cutout as a backdrop, I had fun creating this
“butterfly garden.”  I really love doing
“hybrid” cards – cards where I can combine stamped images with diecut
images.  I love the dimensions we can
create when using these elements together.

Bflylatticewmw

In creating this second card (using another newly-released
set – “Jesus”), I was trying to invoke the image of Jesus as a carpenter
(hence, the “faux woodgrain” board that I used as a banner).  The flowers remind me of dogwood, and I love
how they offset the focal image.

Carpenterwmw

Have a wonderful day, and thanks for stopping by!

Let's Dish With Deb!

Today we are chatting with Deborah Saaranen, one of our newest Bread Basket members.  Let's find out a little more about her!

DeborahLynneSaaranen_by_guesswho2

How long have you been stamping, and how did you start?
I've been stamping about ten years. My sister in law bought me some
stamps for a Christmas exchange gift...didn't use them (I felt so
guilty that I wasn't using the gift she bought!) Started collecting
stamps when a friend had a Stampin' Up! party...really started stamping
when I was introduced to Splitcoaststampers.com.

How long have you been on the ODBD DT?
almost two months

How would you describe your "style"?
Fairly  clean and simple, allowing the colored image to shine.

What was the first stamp you ever bought?
Tulips in a flower bucket from JoAnn's (K-1695, 1999).

Describe the "weirdest" stamp you have.
I bought a vintage type single stamp of a girl's face on a purse...don't know how weird that is, but I've never used it!

What is your favorite medium to work with?
Copic markers

What is your favorite technique?
I find myself always wanting to color...with Copics, Prismas, or
watercolor...I'm not sure if that is considered a "technique" as I've
been doing it since before kindergarten!

What is your favorite or most used tool? (Other than the basics: adhesive, scissors, etc.)
Spellbinders Nestabilities

What is your preferred white cardstock?
Paper Trey Ink's Stamper's Select

What is your favorite ODBD set and why?
It's hard for me to choose...I have always loved the sets of  precious
Bible verses, and lovely, fun to color images...I guess I would have to
say "Sing to the
Lord," with a close second of "Give Thanks."

I'm so thankful that Kelley has filled a niche in the stamping world with images and verses that honor the Lord!

What inspires you in your stamping?
Nature, clothing colors (I see a cute sweater or color combo  on a child at school and think--cool card!)

When is the best time of day for you to be creative?
Late morning, or the middle of the night when I can't sleep.

What is one of the top items on your stamping wish list?
For my stamping room to finally be finished!

What is one food you couldn't live without?
I know this isn't a food, but drink: diet soda...Diet Pepsi and Diet Dr. Pepper.
Food wise, I guess it would have to be potatoes and bread...pretty much anything high in carbs!

What is one thing you like to do to relax?
Travel; read books and magazines; STAMP!

Flashback Friday Favorite - He is Risen

Christ has died.  Christ has risen.  Christ will come again.  What better way to pay tribute to the resurrection of Jesus than the release of He is Risen which featured a cross made of nails.  It not only reminds us of the suffering He endured, but also His glorious ascension into Heaven to be seated at the right of hand of the Father.
