God and country. We often hear about separation of church and state, but both working together is essential for our nation to survive. Whether viewing it either as a military or religious standpoint, the true heart of it all is our nation's ethics. How we handle ourselves as Americans in times of peace and war may be seen as a reflection of how we honor God. The In God We Trust set has captured that duality of church and state:

It is difficult to deny that God doesn't play a role in our nation's endeavors. God is referenced in the Declaration of Independence. You see His name written on our currency. You hear our presidents speak His name when sworn in with the last words in the oath being "So help me God". One of the personal codes of conduct for military members throughout the world is "I will trust in my God and in the United States of America." These are just a few shining examples that God cannot be separated from our country because our nation was built on Him.

Employee Card of the Day - Josh McElwain

Yes, today we are starting a new section of Card of the Day to spotlight Our Daily Bread designs' employees who get creative!

First, let me show you the gorgeous project:

So...who could have made this incredibly beautiful chip tile that's been Glimmer Screened, Glimmer Misted, sponged and flowered??? Well, hold on to your hats because it's none other than...drum roll, please........................

The man on the right who's pictured here with Kelley's daughter, Summer! He's got some natural talent, right?! Josh has been working for ODBD for about a year now and works all the stamp shows. Here he is doing a Make-and-Take with Kelley's son, Ricky:
Most of these stamp shows are flooded with women so it is quite a sight to see these burly men working the table and stamping away! May I add, they are a popular attraction! LOL! Get ready to sigh....Josh makes a little something for his mom at each show! How sweet is that?!

Aside from traveling for the shows and helping set up the booth, Josh also mounts the stamps, packages the sets and sometimes offer comic relief during a long day of work. His morning job is installing ceramic floors and various home improvements.

If any of you happen to come across the ODBD booth at a stamp show near you, make sure to stop by and say "hi" to Josh. Oh, and from the looks of his chip tile, you can also ask him TONS of questions about Glimmer Mists as he has become quite the Glimmer Connoisseur!

Here is what Deb has to share:

Hi There! Welcome to the Our Daily Bread design Blog!

I wanted to treat you with a sneak peek of one of Our Daily Bread design's November releases, "Blessed Christmas." Just look at this gorgeous pointsettia! So elegant, yet fun to color! I've decided to color today's beautiful image with Copic markers.

I began by stamping my image with Memento Tuxedo Black ink onto a flecked off -white cardstock. After using numerous Copic markers, I diecut the image and panel behind with oval Spellbinder's Nestabilities, then used dimensional tape to adhere it to the cardbase.

Besides the poinsettia sneak peek, take a look at this gorgeous, S.E.I Peppermint Bark foil cardstock, also from Our Daily Bread Designs! It absolutely glows with an added elegance...perfect for a simple design!

I stamped my Christmas sentiment onto the flecked paper with Versafine Black ink. It is my all time favorite for giving a clear, precise look. A corner round punch and soft silk bow finishes my project for today.

Be certain to check back here, at the ODBD Blog, November 1st to see all of the excitment! Three new sets and a fabulous blog hop are planned (goodies too!)

Thanks so much for stopping by!

A big Thank You to Deb for sharing this Sneak Peek with us today! You seriously need to NOT miss our Release Day Blog Hop this coming Sunday, Nov. 1st! Flashback Friday Favorite - I Corinthians 13

Patient. Kind. Trust. Hope.

We know these words to be the very definition of LOVE and so it gave us great joy when Kelley released 1 Corinthians:

When you have truly grasped what Paul wrote regarding the love God has for us and how He wants us to pass that love onto others then we can be open to the most wonderful kind of love...a spiritual love, a love of self and a love for others.

Many of us have yet to follow every aspect of this scripture. It isn't the easiest list of "Do's" and "Don't's". Sometimes the most difficult tasks are also the most worthwhile. To be able to find this kind of love and to live by it is to walk with God. Find your love and you in turn will find Him!

Customer Card of the Day - Cheryl Walker

The colors of Cheryl Walker's Get Well card really got my attention for this week's COD!

I love how everything just pops out against the orange-yellow colors. The designer paper background mimicked the butterflies perfectly and effortlessly. Stamping the scripture at an angle draws your eyes to the right place and gives it so much more appeal! The little details of the white dots and the fleur de lis border finishes the card with just the right amount of elegance. Thank you for sharing such a beautiful card, Cheryl!

Time With Grace

Time With Grace

Hello everyone!  It's Tuesday, the day we spend time with one of our Design Team members...and this week it's me! So I thought I'd show you a project I did when the October Our Daily Bread designs stamps were first released!  I used my Zutter Bind it All for the first time to make this little 4 x 4" book.  It was so fun!  I wanted to keep it masculine and I wanted it to be a book of encouragement for someone I know who is undergoing chemo treatments and having a real rough time of it right now.  The verses and images in these three sets were perfect for this purpose!
This is the cover of the book.  My image is actually stamped on some Painted Desert designer paper, using some of the color gradations for my horizon line and using it for the over all color of the scene.  I used this DP and Chocolate by Martha Stewart throughout the book as my unifying elements.  I stamped this image from With Deepest Sympathy onto the dp with Archval Jet Black.  I very lightly colored parts of the image with my Prisma Pencils and blended with Odor Free Mineral Spirits.  I cut this panel with my Spellbinder's Label 3 and mounted over some DP from The First Blush, then a mat of True Thyme and onto a base of Chocolate.I added some twine from my stash, some punched boughs (MS punch) and also I added some little strips of chocolate paper and the cut outs from the next page's SB Fleur de Lis pendant and tried to similate Cat Tails on the outside of my picture.  A  brad that says Hope finished it off.

Here is the inside of the cover, done in that painted desert designer paper, and the Spellbinders Fleur de Lis pendant frames my sentiment.  The sentiment is from With Heartfelt Sympathy and is stamped with Archival Sepia on Very Vanilla and sponged with Chocolate Chip and T Holtz  Distress Ink.  Little antique bronze embellishments were all I added, to keep it masculine.

This is the next page.  I used some designer paper from K&Co. on a chocolate mat, then cut out my Bible with my Spellbinder's Label 7 in two sizes.  On the smaller one I embossed and then drew in some gold lines with a gel pen to simulate pages.  I stamped the verse from With Deepest Sympathy in Archival Sepia. I added some chocolate satin ribbon for a book mark and some flourishes from my Spellbinders Flourish Accents die cuts.

I loved how this page came out!  I stamped the cat tail image from With Heartfelt Sympathy lightly with Sahara Sand on very vanilla  and then over stamped with Archival Sepia another verse from that same set.  I cut that panel out with my Spellbinder's label 5 and sponged lightly.  The background is a base of chocolate, followed by two different designer papers from The First Blush (Prima Mktg) and I added a little bling from BasicGrey.

This final page used the dragonfly image from With Heartfelt Sympathy lightly stamped in Sahara Sand, then the verse from Praying for You stamped in Sepia.  I cut this panel with the Spellbinders Label 4 and sponged, then mounted it on a chocolate label 2.  These are mounted on dp from K&Co and embellished with copper pearls.
I used 1/2" O wires for this project and punching through the material was a breeze! I used the 1/2" Zutter Corner Rounder to give my pages a little more finished look.  I was really happy with how this came out!  I can't wait to do a girly one with lots of ribbons and shimmer, but this being for a man, I had to keep it simple and not frilly.
I hope you  enjoyed seeing my project and if you'd like a little more detail, with specific materials list, please visit my blog Th-INK-ing of You!  Have a blessed day!!!

Product Review and Super Special Sale - Ranger Crackle Accents

If you've ever tried the "Cracked Glass Technique" on a card or project, you can relate to how time-consuming it is to clear-emboss layer upon layer, then make multiple trips to your freezer to be able to "crack the glass" enough times to get the right look.   Ranger has made it super easy to achieve that same awesome effect in ONE SIMPLE STEP, using Crackle Accents!!
Crackle Accents
Crackle Accents is a transparent gloss medium which dries to a cracked finish.   It can be used on any project to add dimension, create a "vintage" look, add texture to your hand-made paper buttons,  and it can also be used as glue.
To apply Crackle Accents  start on a scrap piece of paper in order to let the bubbles out....immediately moving to your project.  Once you start, continue to squeeze the bottle slowly; do not lift the applicator tip from your project until it is fully coated, to ensure that there are no bubbles.  If you happen to see a bubble, either pop it with a pin or drag to the outside edge right away.
IMPORTANT TIP:  Never shake your bottle of Crackle Accents.....this will cause many, many bubbles!

Crackle PR 1
Once you have finished applying the glaze to your project, set it aside in a safe area and DO NOT touch it until it is fully cracked....I know, it's hard to resist, but if you touch it when it's still tacky, your fingerprint will be a permanent part of your project!!!

Crackle PR 2

Depending on how thick it is applied, drying times can vary from 2 to 8 hours.  When it is completely dry, finish your project and enjoy your results!!!!

Crackle PR Card

Here is an example of coating your paper-buttons to give a little extra "oompf"!

So, what are you waiting for?!  Head on over to Our Daily Bread Designs, and add Crackle Accents to your cart today.  Are you excited yet?  Well, here is some REALLY exciting news:  Crackle Accents is the Super Special Sale item this week, 20 % off until Saturday, October 24, 2009 at midnight EST.
Many blessings to you!!

DT Card of the Day - Dawn Lusk!

Talk about using different mediums and techniques to end up with this BEAUTY by Dawn Lusk:
No_More_Sorrow
I was in awe of the scene Dawn created as well as the dimensions she achieved!  I love how she recessed the circle frame and the torn blue cardstocks for the water.  I was totally blown away by the gorgeous sky she sponged, so serene and so peaceful.
