Time With Julie

Hello ODBD friends!I hope you all are ready for a fun "Time With" post, because our talented Julie has really gone over the top with this one!  I know you will love this as much as I do.... so enjoy.... here's Julie!

Hello everyone! My project today involves a large, glass oval paperweight and some small round glass magnets. I've always loved glass paperweights and when I saw this large oval one at my local craft store, I couldn't pass it up.

This is how they originally looked...not too impressive.

When you turn them over, you'll see the backs come off very easily. The oval just peels off and the magnet backs pop off. The paper stickers had to be peeled off. There is a silicon layer on the back of the glass and I'm going to leave that.

For the oval paperweight, I traced around the shape onto one sided sticker paper then stamped the chickadee. I stamped it again on scap paper and used the matching die to cut a mask. What a time saver!

 With the mask in place, I sponged the background and stamped the quote and grassy border on the bottoms and sides. On a separate piece of sticker paper, I stamped the small bird labels/corners. I measured the original stickers and they were exactly an inch in diameter, so I used my 1" circle punch. Just a tip if you hadn't thought of it...turn your punch over to see exactly where to punch.

For my oval, I placed a piece of thin scrap paper over the back of the glass. Since it has a lip, I need my new sticker to fit inside. I used a craft knife to cut out the oval while it was on the glass.

The cut out oval was removed and the remaining frame was placed over my picture and the shape traced so I know where to cut. This can be cut by hand, but by coincidence, the shape is pretty close to one of my Spellbinders Mega oval dies. The mega oval is a little long, but resizing it is easy. I did a tutorial on this several years ago, but in general....

place the die on the line you want to cut on the left. Insert into the die cutting machine, left side first (I use an original Sizzix for this so you may have to adjust to your machine) and cut ONLY to the half way point. Remove from the cutter and move the die to the line you want to cut on the right side. Turn the project around and insert right side first and once again cut ONLY to the half way point.

Now my oval is just the right size! I peeled the back off this new sticker image and attached it directly on top of the old sticker I peeled off. I placed this so that it fit inside the glass oval.

I traced around the oval on the back of a piece of sticky back felt, cut it out and placed this over the entire back of the paperweight.The original piece was a little thin so this adds some more protection.

For the magnets, after punching the stickers out, I applied glue to the silicon covered glass back. I used this Monoaqua glue from Tombow because it's thick enough to self level and it dries clear. I placed the sticker face down and attached the original cardboard backing on top, applied more glue then attached the magnet. Gently press together the piece and have a baby wipe handy to wipe any excess off the glass.

I kept the original little plastic box for the magnets, but made a new sticker label. For the paperweight, I made a new plastic sleeve for it out of a translucent shopping bag and put a sticker label on it.

I made a little gift card to go with my set. I used two sizes of the Spellbinders Labels 6... the largest one for the lower edge and the next smaller for the window. I die cut two of the birds and attached the uncolored one to the back of the top one from the inside to give more stability since so much of him is in the opening.

Thanks so much for stopping by and I hope you've enjoyed my project!

Daisies for you by Cindy Coutts

Happy Tuesday all!!  I hope you all had a great weekend...especially those in the USA celebrating the holiday weekend.  Today we would like to share a creation and post by Cindy Coutts.  Cindy, has been our guest for the last two months and we thank her for all the inspiration she shared with us!! Today is her last post as a guest designer.  It was a pleasure having you as a guest,  Cindy!!  We appreciate you sharing your talent and love for the Lord. Thank you!!

Now on to Cindy's Creation:

Good morning. This is Cindy Coutts again with my last post as the guest designer for Our Daily Bread Designs for April and May, I decided to make you a virtual card. I've had a lot of fun and hope that you have too. I'd also like to thank Kelley and the team for having me :)

My card was one of those cards that you work on for 2 weeks. I had the Daisy image done and forgot about it and colored another image from Ask, Seek, Knock, then I found my Daisy image! I decided to finish making both cards.

The Daisy card is for fun, but the image from Ask, Seek, Knock card has a meaning behind it. The door is colored red to signify the blood that Christ shed on the cross for us. While I was coloring this, I also though it would make a great passover card if you colored the door in slate shades, much like the houses of Israel during that time period, and swiped some red on top of the door. In the two months of seriously being able to dive into my Our Daily Bread Designs stamps, I've discovered that all of the images can be used for something other than the season or scripture the set is paired with. I especially enjoy combining any image with the Quotes, The Blessings Collection, and Scripture Collection sets, which just adds even more versatility. Here's the image that I colored.

My card showcases the Daisy stamp set using a sentiment from Scripture Collection 6. It's your basic A2 size with the opening at the left. I used Authentique Journey for my designer paper and black card stock for the base and Lacy Circle Nestabilities. I colored my image in with various Copic markers outlining the image in a very pale blue. While the Circle Nestabilities was still in the die, I chalked the rest. The sentiment scripture stamp that Becca Feeken chose for Scripture Collection 6 fits perfectly in a 4-1/4 panel with its height. That is just another discovery too of how the images and sentiments are perfectly scaled for card making AND scrapbooking, or anything altered.

I've also been having some serious fun at the Our Daily Bread Designs Forum. It's great fellowship and free. You just sign up and pay $10. That is strictly for spam prevention, and then you get a coupon code emailed back to you to apply to your next purchase! I got a sneak peek of the awesome June 2012 release. There are 6 stamp sets and they are summer themed with a brand new font that I've never seen anywhere. Sweet! You are going to LOVE them all. Get the bundle and save 10-15%. You can't beat that. Come on over and join us at the Our Daily Bread Designs Forum. There is so much going on! I really appreciate the fact that it's a closed forum, it's totally Christ-centered and there's a lot of sisters in Christ in there too! There is so much more on the inside. There's a lot of activity going on!

Remember that I said at the beginning of April how intimidated I was since there was no way I could measure up to the design team? I still don't, but we all "measure up" when we create to glorify the Lord, support the body of Christ, and encourage each other. May the Lord richly bless you as you endeavor to life emulating our Savior.

Cindy

 Thanks so much Cindy!  I hope you all have enjoyed Cindy's project and will leave her a little love here in a comment!  Then pop on over to her blog for more inspiration!

Product Review / Video Tutorial on ODBD Custom Cutting Dies!

Happy Memorial Day, everyone!

For this week's Product Review/Tutorial, we are revisiting the Our Daily Bread designs Custom Cutting Dies once again.  Though many of you have used the dies,  we believe that there is a need to spread the word again about how fantastic these dies are.  Right now there are twenty different custom dies which cut out a wonderful variety of Our Daily Bread designs' stamped images....see them all here.  "Popping up" an image is very popular.....it gives any project extra dimension and "Wow Factor"!  If you are one of those strange ones who loves tedious work like me (grin), you know just how long it takes to cut out some images, especially when you have to get your craft knife involved!  Using these custom dies takes only a minute or so and you'll be ready to go 3-d!!

Please enjoy the video below which shows how to use the custom dies, plus I give you a look at what each stamp and matching die look like once they are cut out.  (Sorry....I did not have time to color all 20 of the images, but they still look great in black and white!)

Below is a slide-show I put together showing over 200 Design Team project samples which feature the custom cutting dies.  All of the photos in the slideshow can also be found in the ODBD Card Gallery if you would like a closer look or more information.

The following card samples are the ones shown in the video tutorial.  All three of these were super easy, thanks to the custom cutting dies.....they do most of the hard work for you!!

Cardstock: Stampin Up Pink Pirouette, Whisper White, and Early Espresso Brown;
Ink: Stazon Timber Brown, Stampin Up Pink Pirouette, Pear Pizazz, and Close to Cocoa;

The next card was super easy, thanks to the 'Watering Can' die which matches the stamp from the 'Happy Birthday' set!  The scripture verse in the corner is from 'Scripture Collection 9'.

Before this 'Sparrow Die' was released by Our Daily Bread designs, this image from 'He Watches Me' took me nearly two hours to cut out by hand because of all of the tiny details....now with the custom die, I can stamp and cut it out in a couple of minutes.....yay!!!

Card 'Ingredients':
Stamps: Our Daily Bread designs 'He Watches Me' and the sentiment is from 'Mini Tags 1';
Cardstock: Stampin Up Sage Shadow (retired) and Whisper White;
Designer Paper: My Mind's Eye 'Miss Caroline - Fiddlesticks';
