Time With Becca!

Hello friends of Our Daily Bread designs!  I'm so excited to have you stop by because today is the day we spend some time with one of our talented Design Team members!  I love these special projects the team shares and this week we are spending time with  our own Becca, who has a beautiful gift set to share with you !  Sit back and enjoy!  Here's Becca:

Our Daily Bread designs stamps, Scripture Bookmarks, designed by Becca Feeken
Hi there blog friends!  This month Our Daily Bread Designs released an entire collection of Bookmark stamps, complete with the dies to make them.  It makes it so easy to run one off for yourself or as a gift that there is virtually no thinking to do.  I wanted to take it a step farther and make a gift box to hold a couple of hand made bookmarks as well as a notebook to keep notes in.  The box is large enough to include all this and a nice pen or pencil.  It was a super fun and super easy project that I was able to complete in less than 45 minutes and goes high on the list being easy to reproduce in larger quantities.

As you can see, it gives you room to include several bookmarks if you so desire :-)  Let me walk you though it :-)

What you'll need to make a similar box is:
A ScorPal
3 Pieces of Cardstock - 1 green, 1 contrast, 1 cream
One of the Our Daily Bread Designs Bookmark Sets
One of the Our Daily Bread Designs Bookmark Dies
A Border Die Template or punch of your choice
Seam Binding

Box Bottom -  cardstock 9 1/4" wide by 8 3/8" tall
  1. Wide side at top, score at 2 3/4" 4 1/4", 7", 8 1/2"
  2. Turn 90 degrees then score at 1" and 6 7/8"
  3. Clip flaps and apply adhesive as shown below.
  4. Turn the top down 1" and adhere.
  5. Apply adhesive to the side tabs and bottom to complete the construction of the basic box.

Box Top - cardstock 5 5/8" wide by 5 7/8" tall
  1. Score at 1" and at 2"
  2. Turn 90 degrees and repeat step 1 until all sides are scored
  3. Clip flaps and apply adhesive as shown below.
  4. Fold flaps as shown to complete assembly of the top.

  1. Cut one border and apply to box
  2. Cut second border and apply to box going in opposite direction
  3. Cut a 1" x 12" strip of cardstock and apply in between borders
  4. Tie a ribbon around box, ending with a bow

  1. Cut one bookmark using Our Daily Bread Designs Scalloped Bookmark
  2. Cut second bookmark, stamp scripture then trim scallops from side
  3. Bind both layers of bookmarks through top hole with seam binding.
  4. Cut cardstock 2 1/2" wide x 12 long.
  5. Adhere to back of notepad and wrap around.
  6. Add bow to front
  7. Add pencil to the box.

Note:  I get my notepads from Walmart.  They are Jr. Legal Pads.  I take them to Office Max (they charge by cut) and ask them to cut them in half vertically.  That yields two pads that 2 1/2" x 8".  For this batch I needed shorter notepads so I asked them to cut at 6" tall before cutting them in half.
This is the perfect gift to have in your gift closet when you are visiting hospitals, the Council on Aging,  leaving goodies for a special teacher or just because.  I hope you enjoyed!!

This is a wonderful gift and tutorial. I can't wait to try it (maybe tonight) Thanks for telling about cutting it in half. I probably will see if hubby can cut a straight line with his band saw.....then I will take on to Office Max to have a good one to give.
