Hello friends of Our Daily Bread designs! I hope you are well and looking forward the wonderful Christmas season with gratitude for all that the coming of the Christ child means for us! I hope that amongst all the busyness, you find time to worship and thank the Lord for His indescribable gift!
Today, I am so excited to be spending time with our own Jan Marie. She has the best project to share with you, and what a perfect last minute gift this would make... made from the heart with love! Enjoy!!!
Framed Tile Shadow Boxing
If you’re looking for a fairly quick project to give as a gift, or add
a seasonal touch to your décor, then you might want to consider this project. One
word of caution, though, stamping on tile can be challenging, especially if you
use tile with texture and character. Be sure to always have a few extra tiles on
hand for practice and re-dos!
Supplies
- 8x 8 Shadow Box
- 3 ½ in square tile (semi-smooth or smooth finish)
- Repurposed cardboard/stiff cardstock
- Ink
- Cardstock/Designer Paper
- Stamps of Choice
- ½ inch Scor Tape
- Embellishments as desired (button, twine, die cut leaves)
Tools
- Craft Knife
- Ruler
- Mat
- Sponge
INSTRUCTIONS
- Disassemble shadow box
- Craft base frame

- Trim repurposed cardboard/stiff cardstock into
an 8x8 square
- Turn the mat into a frame by cutting a 5 x5 inch opening in the mat using your craft
knife or other cutting mechanism. (Tip: Measure in 1 1/2 inches from each side
of the 8x8 inch mat)
- Craft top frame with your selected cardstock or
Designer Paper using the base frame created in Step 2 as your guide.
- Decorate the top frame; I stamped mine with
stamps from the Our Daily Bread Design’s Randi’s Song set and then sponged the
interior edges.
- Adhere the top and base frames together and
insert into front portion of the shadow box. Replace the black inner frame.
- Decorate the tile. Because the tile will not be
used as a coaster or exposed to moisture, I used regular ink and did not paint
with a clear coat (it discolored my test tile), but if you want to do a set of matching tiles, do make sure to spray on a clear coat of paint or lacquer. (Tip: Allow the ink to dry
before proceeding.)
- Add embellishments as desired. I used Memory Box Tender Leaves die cuts along with a vintage button and linen thread.
- Prepare the base by trimming your desired
backing to 8x8 and adhering securely
to the frame backing. You will be mounting the tile to the backing. If it is
not attached well, the weight of the tile will tear the backing and/or sag.
- Mount the tile in the center of the backing
after measuring carefully to ensure proper placement with the frame.
- Place in the frame, secure the clips and that’s
it! You’re done!
