Tips and Helpful Hints for using Clear Stamps

Clear stamps are not like Rubber stamps, here are some tips for helping you get the best use out of your Clear stamps.

The first thing you should do is clean and condition your Clear stamps before using.  To clean them, you can use a little bit of mild dishwashing soap.  If you are using clear stamps with dye inks and your images are not coming out crisp, you may want to condition your stamps before using them.

To condition the stamps, gently rub over them with a pink pencil eraser or use a fine grit sanding block.  By doing this, you will be removing the coating that is left on the stamps when they are manufactured.  If you do not remove the coating, you may notice that your inks are beading up or that certain parts of an image are not stamping properly.

 

Let's talk a little bit about inks and clear stamps
Dye inks don't tend to work as well with clear stamps; the ink may tend to bead up.  That's fine, if that's the look you are going for, but if you want nice crisp images here are a few inks that work wonderfully with clear stamps  - Memento, Brilliance, VersaFine, Colorbox Pigment, Colorbox Chalk, VersaMagic, Ranger Archival (note Archival Inks may tend to stain your Clear stamps).   Stazon Ink is not the best choice for using with your clear stamps, as the ink is very hard to remove from your stamps, and using Stazon Cleaner can possibly damage your stamps.

You can also try using Pigment Inks, just be careful when pressing your stamp into the Pigment Ink Pad, as this ink is very wet.  If you over press into the ink, when you stamp onto your card stock, you will end up with a blob of an image instead of a nice crisp image.  Because Pigments Inks stay wet longer, you can also emboss with these inks.

If you find you are getting too much ink on your stamps, place the acrylic block with the stamp face up and tap your ink onto the stamp.

Regardless of which inks you use with your clear stamps, make sure you are using a freshly inked pad, so that you end up with nice crisp images each time you stamp.

The type of card stock and weather in your location can also be a factor when using clear stamps.  If you are in a really humid part of the country you may notice that your inks take longer to dry or will bead up, just remember to experiment with your stamps, inks and paper to find out what works best for you.

When stamping with Clear stamps, you will want to use a lighter pressure when you stamp, because there is no cushion between the stamp and the acrylic block.  If you press too hard, you will end up with a blob. Be sure you are stamping on a nice hard surface, some people find it better to stand when stamping with clear stamps; again experiment until you find a method that works right for you.

Clear Stamps Care
Some stamp cleaners can be too harsh for cleaning Clear Stamps. Ranger Cleansit is a wonderful stamp cleaner for all types of inks and removes inks quickly from Rubber and Photopolymer stamps.  Ranger also sells a Clear Stamp Cleaner, which has a gentle cleaning formula especially made for using with polymer stamps. If your clear stamps appear to be losing their cling, just wipe the back with a little bit of water to revive them.

 

Clear Stamp Storage

Keep clear stamps away from heat and direct sunlight, this will damage your stamps.  Crafters Companion sells a wonderful storage system for storing your stamps (both Clear and Rubber).  You can view them here on our website.

Product Review Stamp and Die Storage

Have you been looking for a storage solution for your Stamps and Dies? Look no further, as Our Daily Bread Designs recently added some new Stamp and Die Storage products to our website.

  

We are carrying both the Full and Mini size EzBinders. 

Each EZBinder features a locking clip to keep the binder shut tight, locking rings to keep your stamp sets held inside and a clear overlay on the outside of the binder so that you can customize each binder with your own unique style.

  

     

The EZBinder (Full Size) measures 10 3/4" wide x 11 5/8" tall x 1 1/2" deep.

 

The EZBinder (Mini) measures 7" wide x 9 1/2" tall x 1 1/4" deep.

  

EZBinders (Full Size) hold five (5) EZMount cling Stamp Storage Panels (SS05) with stamps attached on one side or four (4) EZMagnetic 2-N-1 Panels (SS41-2) with dies and stamps on both sides or twelve (12) EZMagnetic 2-N-1 Panels (SS41-2) with dies on one side and nothing on the back sides.

Product Review - ODBD 2012 Catalog and Gallery Book!

Hi, everyone!  This week's Product Review article is all about the beautiful ODBD 2012 Catalog and Gallery Book, which shows Our Daily Bread designs' stamp sets and singles, background stamps, and custom cutting dies, along with designer projects for your inspiration! 

 

The Table of Contents inside the cover lists each section of the catalog, according to theme, such as Garden, Nature, Scriptures, Christmas, Patriotic, Sympathy, Backgrounds, Borders and Frames, and many more!  Inside the back cover is an index, so that you may quickly flip to your favorite set!  

Whether it be stamps, dies, or the catalog, in order to create any quality product, lots of planning, time, and love is required.  The ODBD catalogs are printed and bound on site at Our Daily Bread designs - below are photos of the the color copier, binding machine, and pages awaiting to be bound:

   

   

Each catalog is bound with a heavy plastic spiral binder, as shown below.  As you turn the pages, the ease of movement allows the previous page to be moved to the back....or if you choose to see two pages at once, the catalog will lay flat without closing.

  

I, myself, like to keep my catalog in my stamp room....when I am looking for a particular size, shape, or themed stamp, I find that it is much easier to look through the catalog instead of looking at each individual stamp case on my shelf.  Also, due to the 8-1/2 x 11 size, it's easy to put in my tote bag and take it with me.....this is such an easy way to share the beauty of ODBD stamps with others.  Each page is beautifully decorated, the gorgeous stamps speak volumes themselves, and the amazing designer samples are awe-inspiring!!

Product Review & Tutorial - Flower Soft "Scrap It Frame It" Kits!

You all know how much we love Flower Soft here at Our Daily Bread designs!  If you have ever visited our show booth, you may have created a Flower Soft sample for yourself!  This week we are sharing the fun, new Flower Soft "Scrap It Frame It" Kits!  Create a scrap-page within a shadow-box, stamp your favorite scene, layer up your favorite dies and embellishments, and much, much more!  I've decorated three already and can't wait to do more!!

Each frame measures approximately 8 x 10 on the outside and approximately 5-1/2 x 7-1/2 for the inset section.  There are three frames in each package, along with optional easels for the back, plus four corner pieces for each frame to stabilize and strengthen the finished frame.  Other than embellishments and paper of your choice, the only supplies you will need are double sided tape (I prefer Scor-tape since it is heavy duty) and a scoring tool of your choice (I used the Scor-Buddy).   Please enjoy the six minute video below which shows each step in assembling the frames.

For my first sample, here are the supplies I used:
